I wanted to give an update on our favorite baby items for 0-3 months. I previously shared what items I had as registry must-haves so this is a little update to that. I’m also going to mention a few items that I didn’t think were that great or that we simply didn’t really use at the bottom of the post. All of these are my own opinions and remember every baby is different, which means each product may work differently for everyone.
Owlet Smart Sock – I 100% recommend the smart sock to parents. It gives me such piece of mind while he’s sleeping to know everything is ok. We don’t use it for naps, just at nighttime. The Smart Sock monitors baby’s oxygen levels, heart rate & more and alerts you when something is abnormal. You track everything through an app on your phone making it super convenient! I have heard this can cause anxiety for some parents but for us it’s reassuring & we’ve only have a few false alarms, mainly when the sock isn’t positioned correctly on his foot.
UPPAbaby Vista V2 Stroller & Basinet/UPPAbaby Mesa Carseat – Ok, while I do love our stroller and car seat – I do think we should’ve done more research and gone with a lighter/more compact option. The bassinet attachment seems like such a great idea but we literally used it ONCE. The stroller itself is pretty bulky and the carseat is HEAVY! I can barely carry it and it’s only going to get worse as he gets bigger. I think if I had to re-purchase I would go with the Nuna Pipa Lite carseat and the UPPAbaby Cruz stroller. My mom actually has the Cruz and it just seems more compact and portable.
Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine & Night Light – I still highly recommend this product!! We use it every night and actually purchased the Hatch Restore for ourselves. You can control everything from your phone which actually recently came in handy around the 4th of July, as I was able to increase the sound level on the machine from my phone when fireworks started.
HALO Sleepsack – We loved these sleepsacks for keeping baby snug and cozy while sleeping. We eventually transitioned him into the ones where his arms could be free and then out of the sleep sack. We now use the Kyte Baby sleep sacks.
Baby Brezza Water Warmer – This product was a LIFESAVER for us. We had originally purchased a bottle warmer and we hated it. It took forever to warm up the bottle, which is not fun with a screaming baby and we were constantly burning ourselves on it. The BabyBrezza water warmer was a gamechanger and meant no more waiting for bottles to warm because the water was already pre-warmed! I thought about getting the Baby Brezza that mixes the formula with the water but I had read some negative reviews about it not dispensing the right amount and how annoying it is to clean. Ultimately, it doesn’t take that long to mix up the bottle.
Ubbi Diaper Pail – The main reason we choose this diaper pail was that it doesn’t require special bags, you simply use regular trash bags! This definitely saves us some money, not having to buy bags all the time. The pail is made of steel which helps lock in odors and you can only smell any odor when the lid is open. I will say when we received this item, we were shocked at how tiny it was BUT it holds SO MANY DIAPERS.
Angelcare Baby Bath – Once Atticus was able to be fully submerged in water we started using this bathtub. It’s nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Once he can sit up better we will probably get him some type of seat for the bath.
Target Cloud Island Sleepers & Mittens – These were recommended by so many people because they are soft and have a zipper close instead of buttons/snaps, making diaper changes super quick and easy! Plus, they are affordable! Mittens are another must have item because babies are constantly scratching themselves.
BABYBJORN Baby Carrier Mini – We actually registered for several baby carriers and this is the only one I use. It was created specifically for newborns but can hold babies up to 24 pounds. It’s less bulky and works better for someone smaller like me. They make other carriers for once baby is over 24 pounds, so I will probably end up purchasing one of those. I had several wrap carriers and I just never got into using them.
Comotomo Bottles – I had picked these bottles because they are supposedly good for babies who do combo feeding. Atticus took to them with no problem and we then switched to bottle only. Overall they are easy to clean and we really like them!
Keekaroo Peanut Changer – We decided to use a normal dresser for our “changing table” so we wanted a changing pad that was slip resistant. This one is also water resistant and easy to clean, meaning you don’t have to worry about messes! We still love this changing pad and LOVE that you can just wipe it clean.
Copper Pearl Bibs – These bibs are my favorite. They are made of 100% cotton on the front and 100% polyester fleece on the back making them super absorbent but also super soft. They are adjustable and work for ages 3-36 months. They also come in the cutest prints like tacos and sushi.
4moms Breeze Plus Playard – This is the pack-n-play we decided to go with. We kept it in our living room for diaper changes and naps when Atticus was little. Other than that we didn’t use it much. Both of our parents have systems at their homes so we don’t have to travel with it back and forth. It is one push open and one pull close, making it easy to set-up and travel with when necessary. I actually think this would be good to use instead of a bassinet if you can fit it in your bedroom.
Eddie Bauer Cascade Diaper Bag & Freshly Picked Classic Diaper Bag – I love my diaper bag and we essentially use the Freshly Picked bag anytime we go anywhere. It has a ton of room and plenty of pockets/compartments. We haven’t used the Eddie Bauer one yet but we plan on taking it with us on vacation later this month.
Boppy Newborn Lounger– We used the newborn lounger so much – more than the DockATot for sure. I think Atticus liked the newborn lounger more because it has a slight incline and he loved to look around and see what was going on. We used the DockATot for the first few weeks when he was really little but after that we used the newborn lounger. We also have the regular Boppy pillow that he’s starting to use more now to assist with sitting up.
Tubby Todd Products – I’m a huge fan of this brand simply because it’s all clean ingredients. The all over ointment was super helpful in getting rid of baby acne. We’ve also purchased their sunscreen for our upcoming vacation.
Baby Nail Trimmer – This is a must have if you’re having a baby. Like I mentioned earlier, babies nails are so sharp and they are always scratching their faces. Cutting their nails is so scary so we love this nail trimmer that makes it impossible to harm them when using it. It’s basically an electric nail buffer that files down the nails. Atticus doesn’t fuss at all when we use it.
Black and White Gym – Atticus loved this play mat, I think because it’s black and white. I loved that there are multiple toys that hang above and you can interchange them. Also perfect for tummy time!
Kyte Baby & Little Sleepies – I forgot to add these to the collage above but these have become our favorite pjs. They are made from bamboo and super soft. We get the ones with open feet so they last longer size wise.
Items we didn’t use that much or didn’t love:
Owlet Video Monitor – While we love the Owlet sock we don’t care for the video monitor. I thought having the monitor on my phone would be nice but it’s actually sort of annoying because then you can’t use your phone if you also want to see the monitor. We actually use an ipad as the monitor so we don’t need our phones. The app always has updates and sometimes it just doesn’t want to work. I will say the only plus to having access on your phone is that I can pull up his monitor while I’m at work. lol We will probably get a different monitor eventually for baby #2 – one that has two screens.
Halo Bassinet – There was nothing wrong with this bassinet and we used it for the first 3 months however the main reason we purchased it was for the features such as noise, vibration, etc. and we literally never used them. Now, we did have a great sleeper so they weren’t really necessary. Once again, that doesn’t mean the next baby won’t find the vibration calming so we will most likely keep the bassinet for now. I mentioned above that I think if you have room, you could totally just use the pack n play as the bassinet.
4moms mamaRoo – I was really excited for this product but ultimately we just didn’t use it that much. I will say part of that was probably first time mom fear since they say babies shouldn’t sleep in swings so every time he would fall asleep I would take him out. lol We actually just put the swing in storage around 4 months because it was just taking up room and not being used. Once again, maybe the next baby will enjoy it more!
DockATot Deluxe – I was torn on putting this item here because we did really like the DockATot those first few weeks when Atticus was really little but then after that we never used it again. I think it’s pretty pricey for something you only use a handful of times. We definitely used the Boppy newborn lounger more but that was once we got a little older.
Boon Bottle Warmer – DO NOT PURCHASE lol I mean maybe it will work for you but as I mentioned above, this was a terrible product for us. Save yourself time & baby cries and buy the BabyBrezza water warmer.
